The Sunstone Education Foundation is pleased to announce its first Graphic Short Story Contest (i.e. comic-book-style stories), sponsored by an anonymous donor. All entries must relate to Latter-day Saint experience, theology, or worldview. All varieties of form are welcome.

RULES

1.   Up to three entries may be submitted by any one creator. Send entries in PDF format to sunstone[dot]editor[at]gmail[dot]com by 15 November 2015.

2.   The creator’s name must not appear on any page of the manuscript. Entries must be at least 3 pages and have a story arc. There is no page limit. Entries can be in color or black and white.

3.   In the body of the email, the author must state the entry’s title and the creator’s name, address, telephone number, and email. The creator must also include language attesting that the entry is her or his own work, that the creator retains publication rights to the work, and that it will not be submitted to other publishers until after the contest. Previously published content is welcome as long as the creator has print and electronic publication rights. The author must also grant permission for the manuscript to be filed in the Sunstone Collection at the Marriott Library of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. If the entry wins, Sunstone Magazine retains exclusive print publication options for one year and non-exclusive electronic and reprint rights, though publication is not guaranteed. The author retains all other literary rights. Sunstone discourages the use of pseudonyms; if used, the creator must identify the real and pen names and the reasons for writing under the pseudonym.

4.   Entries the judges consider to contain excessive sexual or violent content will not be admitted to the contest.

Entries, without author identification, will be judged by noted Mormon artists, writers, and professors of media. Winners will be announced by 15 December 2015 on Sunstone’s website, www.sunstone.org. Only winners will be notified by email. After the announcement, all other entrants will be free to submit their stories elsewhere.

Sunstone’s page dimensions are 8”x10”.

Prize money varies (up to $400 each) depending on the number of winners announced.
