Due to travel and gathering restrictions, we have postponed the in person Birmingham event to keep our community safe and healthy. Join us for a keynote taster event on September 5th 2020, and then in person in 2021 when it's safe again to gather. Please view details for the in-person conference at the bottom of this page.

The Sunstone Birmingham 2020 digital conference will take a closer look at the idea of Zion. What makes a perfect Zion? How have we strayed from the ideal Zion? What can we do to dismantle and reconstruct a Zion fit for the modern day? What parts of our imagined Zion need to be re-examined and re-built for a modern day Zion?

Hamer2

John Hamer

John Hamer is a historian, theologian, and community builder. John is a Seventy in Community of Christ and serves as pastor of the church’s downtown Toronto Congregation. Toronto’s “Beyond the Walls” inclusive church service is among the largest online ministries in the church with participants from hundreds of locations around the world participating live each Sunday.

John was one of the originators of the Latter-day Seekers program, which has sought to create a safe refuge for Mormons who are not affirmed by their own faith community.

Zelph on the Shelf is run by Samantha Shelley and Tanner Gilliland, two writers/jazz hand enthusiasts living in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are two millennial ex-Mormons who are, sadly, afflicted with the handicap of thinking thet Twitter hot takes and edgy memes are suitable substitutes for sound historical scholarship and critical thinking. They are both interested in mindfulness, nutrition, and lists of three.
