Sunstone's 2021 Symposium is exploring the theme of Unprecedented Mormonism.

2020 was an unprecedented year. It broke down our perceptions and practice of faith, community, and worship.

2021 is the year to take our first steps into an unknown future—pioneering new paths forward. A perfect challenge for Mormons.

What new cultural, theological, and social structures can we build to address this new world? What aspects of Mormonism can point us in new directions? What aspects can we finally lay to rest?

We sit like an audience before a curtain about to rise. But it is we who are producing the show. What will the curtain reveal?

The call for papers deadline has been extended to April 1, 2021.

Only a limited number of papers and panels will be accepted this year. Please get your proposals in early. Acceptance notices will be sent out via email the last week of April.

We invite proposals that amplify and develop ideas inspired by the theme for this year’s Salt Lake Symposium. Submissions will be determined at Sunstone’s discretion to fill either a 60-minute or 90-minute time slot.

Submissions will be accepted according the following criteria:

Relevance to the theme Unprecedented Mormonism.

Does the content reflect the values of our Mission Statement to host an open forum, expresses rich spiritual, intellectual, social, and artistic qualities of Mormon history and contemporary life with responsible and respectful interchange?

Does it bring value to our symposium? Is it thoughtful/substantive?

ABOUT SUBMITTING PROPOSALS:

In order to receive first-round consideration, proposals should be received on or before 1 April 2021.

Incomplete or late proposals will be considered on a time/space-available basis. Sessions will be accepted according to standards of excellence in scholarship, thought, and expression.

If you have any questions please email our Events Manager Grace Pool at Grace@Sunstone.org

Submissions for the 2021 Sunstone Summer Symposium are open! Complete the form below to submit your proposal.

Submitting Proposals for Regional Conferences and Other Events
If you would like to submit a proposal for one of our events (not the Salt Lake Summer Symposium), please email Grace Pool at Grace@Sunstone.org

Regional events function in a different way than the Salt Lake Summer Symposium. They are smaller, more casual gatherings around the world and much of the program content is curated. If you would like to propose an idea, please do so by email.

EMAILS MUST INCLUDE:

Subject line of email: Proposal for [title and date of] Conference

Body of email: Must contain abstract of presentation, proposed presentation time, bio and contact info for all presenters.

To submit an ad or an article to be published by Sunstone, please review our Ads and Submissions page here.

Do you accept submissions for publication? I have a 4,875 word essay, the subject is Reconciling Science and religion, from the LDS perspective. Its a ground breaking work that has been over forty years in the making. 435-623-4725

I am interested in doing a paper which called: “God, the Latter-day Saints and the LBGT community”. Subtitle: does God love everyone

Scriptures referenced include but are not limited to:

    Mark 7: 5-13
    John 8: 4-7
    Duet 32: 20 et al
    Rom 3:
Ellen DeGenerous, Mayor Pete, Juliette Binoche etc.

Unfortunately I have missed the deadlines for the summer meeting, but if you are interested in the topic, I am sure some future meeting would do for presentation.

Would you happen to know the date of the Sunstone Symposium in Short-Creek (Colorado City), Southern Utah, for 2020?
    Thank you.
