Sunstone has a rich 40-year legacy of open and frank explorations of Mormonism as it relates to the complexities of today’s society. This legacy has been possible in large part because of the generosity of Sunstone supporters.
Sunstone operates as a nonprofit foundation, and while the magazine and symposium cover a significant portion of the budget each year, we rely on the loyalty of our extended family of readers, subscribers, symposium attendees, fans, and supporters to keep us going. These contributions help us extend our community, embark on new projects like our Sunstone Institute podcasts, and develop a stronger Internet presence.
We invite you to kindly join us in sustaining this community. And remember, because Sunstone is a 501c3 organization, your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Other giving options
While cash donations are always useful and welcome, there are a number of other ways to support Sunstone. Some other ways to give include:
Postage stamps
Copy/printer paper
Gift cards for office supplies
Professional services such as consulting, marketing, social media, networking
Frequent-flier miles for speakers’ travel
Hotel points for speaker or staff lodging at regional symposia
We can often use office equipment, toner/printer cartridges, etc. Please contact Grace Pool by emailing info@sunstone.org for our current wish list.
Symposium Underwriting: Meeting space rental is often the single biggest expense for symposia–especially our regional events. Individuals or groups can contribute designated funds to underwrite various symposium costs such as meeting space rental, printing symposium programs, or underwriting travel or discounted registration for full time students . Business owners can also inquire about symposium sponsorship options.
Volunteering: We always need helping hands, both in and out of the office.
In-person help might include helping with a mailing or a symposium. At symposiums, volunteers may help at the registration desk, take tickets, check for badges at the door, help with our session recordings, put up door signs, and other administrative tasks. At the office, there’s usually a project or two on the back burner that would benefit from some volunteer time and attention.
Off-site volunteers with computer access are regularly needed to help with digitizing magazine content and updating existing digitized content to be compatible with new technologies (like Kindles and Apps).
Technical Support: Since our staff is so small, we don’t have in-house technical support. If you’d be willing to answer questions or help troubleshoot computer/technical problems, we’d love to have you on speed dial.
Is there another way you’d like to donate? Give us a call at 801-355-5926 or email us at info@sunstone.org and let us know.
Bequests to Sunstone
Sunstone supporters over the years have made bequests to the Foundation in their wills. These gifts, whether large or small, have a direct impact on our ability to put Sunstone on a firm financial footing and invest in its future.
Each year, bequests make it possible for the Foundation to undertake special projects and new initiatives that its regular income and annual gifts cannot cover. From expanding our outreach to younger readers to commissioning new articles, from launching initiatives such as the Mapping Mormon Issues Project to increasing our regional symposia offerings, bequests are an influential way you can help us.
All bequests to The Sunstone Education Foundation, as a charitable, not-for-profit organization, are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

A simple paragraph, added to an existing will, is often all that’s required. For example, the following sentence is usually sufficient for Sunstone to benefit from your bequest: “I give [dollar amount or percentage of estate or description of security] to The Sunstone Education Foundation, Salt Lake City, UT, to be used for its exempt purposes.”
Residual or Conditional Bequests
If you wish, the residue of your estate can be directed to Sunstone after bequests of specific amounts to family members and friends. In this case, the following language may be sufficient: “I give [percent] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to The Sunstone Education Foundation, Salt Lake City, UT, for its exempt purposes.”
In addition, you may make your bequest conditional, in case an heir named in your will does not survive you: “In the event that [name of primary beneficiary] should not survive me, I give, devise and bequeath [the desired sum, property or percentage of your estate] to The Sunstone Education Foundation, Salt Lake City, UT, for its exempt purposes.”
Restricted Bequests
While an unrestricted bequest gives Sunstone the greatest flexibility, you may have a specific purpose for your bequest in mind, such as the endowment of an editorial position, college and university outreach, or a purchase you would like to enable the magazine to make. We invite you to consult with us about specific projects and opportunities where such help would be extraordinarily welcome.

I have a complete collection of Exponent II from its beginning to Summer 2010.
Would you like them? Can you use them?
This community is critically important in so many ways. It must continue. I have subscribed to a monthly payment, and am donating professional services. Please do what you can! We can keep this beautiful resource available, now and in the future.
Just say I’ve changed. I no longer find the articles in Sunstone relevant to my life or my eternal salvation. Please take me off your mailing list. Thank you.
