MULTIPLY AND REPLENISH: POPULATION CONTROL AND YOUR ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

D&C 104:17 states, “For the earth is full, and there is enough and to spare.” What did that mean in 1834, when this revelation was given and world population was just over a billion? What does it mean today, when seven billion people live on the earth? Global population is expected to reach between 7.5 and 10.5 billion by 2050; will there be “enough and to spare” then? Does the revelation still apply? This panel will explore a variety of interrelated topics including: consumerism, resource management, population control, stewardship, green energy, and recycling. instead of being used to justify American consumerism and over-consumption, perhaps we will come to use this verse to actually eliminate poverty and establish Zion.
