From its beginning as a moderate midwestern Mormonism, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints integrated into American pluralist modernity. The Community of Christ is today part of the National Council of Churches in the USA. American identity is still predominant in the Community of Christ, whose theology and ethics are defined by an American progressive leadership striving to unite a diverse membership through common rituals. Thus the Community of Christ is an American Ecumenical and Progressive Protestantism with Mormonism as an option.
